In order for Man to produce this light, it took much work from God. To begin with "The earth was invisible and without form." (Gen 1:2) Invisible means that it doesn't reflect light. A human being without virtue is invisible because he doesn't reflect light. We are called to do good works here on earth and to be a light to the world. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16). Without form means that it doesn't have its final beautiful form. God's intent has always been to adorn the human soul and give it its beautiful form. That's how the church triumphant was described as in Revelation 21:2 "I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." But in order to get His Church, His Bride, the New Jerusalem to that beautiful form, it requires much work, and an ultimate sacrifice. In other translations of Genesis 1:2 we read "The earth was invisible and unfinished." God's act of creation on earth wasn't finished then. After man's fall, God prepared the salvific plan involving many steps: - He prepared examples for us in Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and many others. - He gave us the law as a tutor to guide us and show us how we are to conduct ourselves. - He helped us in many wars in the Old Testament and fought other wars on our behalf to teach us that He'll also be with us in our spiritual wars. - He established the sacrificial system of the Old Testament to show us consequences of our sins. - He sent us many prophets to prepare us for His coming down here on earth. - He took flesh, dwelt among us and became the perfect example by example. "The earth was invisible and unfinished." The act of creation wasn't finished at that time. Many other things God did for us in order to be in the form intended. He finally said "It is finished", but that was much later when He was hung on the cross before bowing His head... (John 19:30)
The action of creation was finished then, but the work of God continues till this day. The question is, do you see God's work in your life? How do you respond to it?
